Core Competence
Mr. Edet possesses core competence of about 25 years in providing business management, corporate finance & financial advisory, SME consulting/institutionalization advisory, privatization advisory, legal advisory, corporate/governance management, credit risk management and management services. Having spent the early part of his academic career in the study of political science, Edet has been profoundly schooled in the knowledge and practice of public administration and governance as well as political economy and is currently serving on a very high level Committee of one of the most important agencies of the Federal Government where he is making fundamental contributions to the shaping and development of the Nigerian economy towards the achievement of the Governments Vision 2020. Edet has been a key member of the Legal Implementation Committee (LIC) of the Financial System Strategy (FSS) 2020 program since November 2007. The LIC is at the base of financial sector reforms under the FSS 2020 of the Central Bank of Nigeria and is tasked with the responsibility of facilitating reform of relevant laws in the financial sector and to provide the legal impetus for the realization of the FSS 2020. .
As a member of the LIC, he is been involved in a review of sundry laws in the financial and related sectors which has led to the submission of several quick win bills to the National Assembly for enactment including the Bill for an Act to Establish the Nigerian International Financial Centre, a Bill for an Act to Establish the Office of the Nigerian Financial Ombudsman, a bill for the establishment of the National Alternative Disputes Resolution Regulatory Commission and a bill for an Act to Facilitate the Use of Information in Electronic Form for Conducting Transactions in Nigeria. The LIC has identified 22 important bills to be sent to the National Assembly for enactment. As a member of the LIC, Edet has also been involved in the review of the draft laws for Credit Reporting & Information Exchange, the Securitization & Asset Backed Security Bill, the NMRC Act, the AMCON Amendment Act, the Secured Transactions Collateral Registry Bill and bills for reformation of the Mortgage and SME sectors. .
As a key member of the LIC, he has been recommended on several occasions by the Central Bank of Nigeria to attend workshops and courses in furtherance of the enactment of Nigeria’s Securitization & Asset Backed Law as well as the Secured Transactions Collateral Registry Bill both in Lagos and Accra Ghana (organized by the IFC). Edet has supervised the design of economic development strategy for some states in Nigeria and is an avid advocate of models for economic transformation. He also teaches Law, Corporate Governance and Negotiation at the Enterprise Development Center of the Lagos Business School/Pan Atlantic University as member of the faculty and further serves as an Expert in Residence within the school’s program for mentoring entrepreneurs.

Recently, he was appointed a member of the Steering Committee of the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women Project in Nigeria. The project which is superintended by the EDC is aimed at enhancing the skills of women entrepreneurs using the latest technology through the development of investment readiness and finance literacy via a blended learning approach.
Edet is also the Program Legal Consultant to the Central Bank of Nigeria in respect of the World Bank (IDA) sponsored National Housing Finance Program. His roles include the following:
- Providing legal advice to the Project Steering Committee and serving as its secretary;
- Liaise with the Ministry Of Justice at both Federal and State levels and Federal Judicial Commission to canvass and advocate implementation of Program objectives
- Maintain records of minutes of meetings and agreements
- Coordinate the adoption of agreed legal advice with State Governments for reforms on land and housing laws
- Maintain progress reports of land titling law reforms and harmonies registration processes with various State Governments
- Organizing workshops and other forums to promote Program objectives
- Report on developments in the area of legal and regulatory framework, housing finance subsidies and taxation
- Any other duties as may be assigned by the Coordinator of the Secretariat of the Steering Committee.
He is has also served as an expert and resource person to the Central Bank of Nigeria under the International Finance Corporation sponsored program for the design and set up of Nigeria’s National Collateral Registry. In this role, Edet has helped in shaping the legal framework for this important financial infrastructure by providing expertise in banking and finance matters, credit risk management to the CBN and IFC as well as the drafting of both the regulations and the law which shall govern the National Collateral Registry. He also represented the CBN and IFC at CBN Enugu to present these Regulations and the National Collateral Registry at a recent Stakeholders Workshop which he facilitated.
Edet is a member of Ikoyi Club and the Nigerian Bar Association. He is the Founder/Lead Consultant of Savvi Advisory Services, a boutique firm of consultants that provide management consulting, SME Advisory, Financial Advisory and Venture Development services. He is also the Founder of SavviLaw Firm, a firm of corporate lawyers in Victoria Island, Lagos.
